Level art and design - Cursed Blade Game
Level design and environment art for a student game project — map planning, prop sketches, and swamp level set dressing for a team of twenty.
Overview
A team of about twenty people, fresh out of year-long game creation courses, asked me to help with level design and environment art for their student project. My role leaned more toward level designer than environment artist — helping the team’s writers and game designers express their stories through spatial planning.
Process
I started by working closely with the narrative designers on the planning stage: discussing how many levels the game needed, what each one should communicate, and sketching maps for all of them. From there I created draft blockout models, prop sketches, and detailed level plans. I also handled set dressing for the swamp levels in Unity, using 3ds Max for props and Photoshop for textures and concepts.
